“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” ― Anonymous
I was walking, it was already deep into the night. The production meeting ended late as usual. Never mind that, it was just a matter of months and I’ll be missing meetings like that. I was walking, there was no jeepney insight. It was a calm evening. I lived near the municipal hall–quite far from the university. A person on a Honda motorbike stopped beside me, the person smiled and asked me if I wanted a ride–if I looked tired and desperate, I do not know. The one thing I do know is that, I hesitated for a bit but the person had the kindest smile on his face–something I do not see everyday or every night. After a chitchat for two minutes, I deemed him trustworthy and in his hand I laid my life down.
The bike ride to home was a chat between two strangers. He stopped at my place and bid me goodbye and rode off into the distance.
To you, random guy in a random motorbike,
You must be an angel. Thank you for taking me home when there were no vehicles on the road and I needed to get to my place because I had such a long day. I know it was stupid of me to get on a bike with a stranger nonetheless, you made sure I got home safe. Thank you for not taking advantage of my stupidity and for your generosity.
I cannot remember your face anymore. Do remind me of our encounter when we cross paths again–I’ll treat you to coffee. I insist.
